One of my obsessions...

I have to admit that I am a little bit of a hoarder, at least when it comes to Christmas ornaments. I don't know when this obsession started but I have always loved Christmas—especially decorating the tree.

I started collecting vintage bulbs years ago. I found most of them at flea markets and garage sales and have enough to decorate at least 3 – 6 trees! And even though I have plastic totes full of ornaments (you should see my storage room), I'm still buying. Why??!!

I couldn't resist buying these Christopher Radko ornaments which resembles the vintage ones from the 50s.

And I can't resist hand-blown glass ornaments from Poland. I add a few to my collection every year.

These are my favorite Polish ornaments, tiny little egg-shape bulbs in an egg carton.

Some silver and sparkly ones I bought two years ago at Petitti Garden Center, after the holidays at a bargain price of 75% off. Who can say no to that!

And my latest addition that I just bought last week, also at a bargain price!

I will be downsizing soon, I promise!

Happy 2014!

Oh Christmas Tree...

For the past five years, we have had an artificial Christmas tree and for some reason, I couldn't stand the thought of dragging it out this year. It just isn't the same as having a live tree, one that isn't squished inside a box. Not only did I missed the fresh smell of pine but I also missed the "hunt" for that perfect tree.
So off we went to the local tree farm with our dog, Vincent. We walked around for  about an hour until we spotted it — the perfect tree for our family room.
Here are my helpers in front of the tree we selected. Of course, Vincent wasn't much help. He was more interested in greeting everyone he saw but it was fun having him with us.
I wasn't sure how the animals would react to a live tree so I kept my vintage bulbs safely tucked away in their boxes and decorated the tree with silver and blue ornaments again.
I love anything that sparkles and love how these ornaments reflect the lights.
There are even a few creatures, here ...
... and there!
We can't forget Santa. I treat myself to a new one each year. This one is from Poland.
And of course you need an angel for the top. Mine was crocheted by my mother over 35 years ago! I treasure it since my mother is no longer with us.
And a tree wouldn't be a Christmas tree without presents.
As you can see, I love sparkly ribbon and papers too!
Our beautiful finished tree—I love it!

What kind of tree do you prefer — live or artificial?

Whatever tree you get, I'm sure it will be beautiful. I think all Christmas trees are.

Have a wonderful Christmas!

home for the holidays...

My daughter will be home in one week and I can't wait! Last year at this time, I was in Florida helping her get settled into her new apartment. It was not easy returning home and celebrating Christmas without her. So you can imagine how excited I am this year to have her home for the holidays.

Work has been crazy busy for the past few months. So I have been decorating the house whenever I can spare a few moments during the day or evening. Here's a peek of our country home, all decked out and waiting...
